Film Premieres Update

In 1932, Diana Vreeland had a rather extraordinary experience in a movie theater in Montmartre during a screening of L’Atlantide. While being mesmerized by the Queen of the Lost Continent on a throne surrounded by cheetahs, she rested her hand on something next to her. When the lights went up after the film, she realized her hand was on Josephine Baker’s cheetah! “You’ve brought your cheetahs to see the cheetahs!” Mrs. Vreeland exclaimed to a glamorously decked-out Ms. Baker.

Now, it’s your turn to have an extraordinary movie experience—and this time, Diana Vreeland is up on the screen. Lisa Immordino Vreeland’s film DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL, a documentary on Mrs. Vreeland, will have theatrical releases starting this September. During New York Fashion Week, the film will have its dazzling premiere at MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) in the city where Mrs. Vreeland performed the majority of her legendary work at Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and the Met Costume Institute. From there, the film travels to Los Angeles for a premiere at the illustrious LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and then moves on to London for its U.K. premiere at Curzon Mayfair, followed by a private dinner hosted by British Harper’s Bazaar.

“Diana Vreeland will finally be presented in a big way to both longtime fans and younger generations,” says Lisa Immordino Vreeland, the director. “Mrs. Vreeland was a rebel who lived life with the freedom to make her own choices. Her passion, imagination, and fantasies were her driving forces. I hope that my film will touch everyone all over the world, and that viewers will fall under her enchanting spell—and perhaps dare to think a bit differently.”

After London, the film travels to Milan and Amsterdam and then arrives in Paris just in time for fashion week. The Paris event is sponsored by Barneys New York. On October 1st, the film will have a special screening at the prestigious Institut Lumiere in Lyon, France.

DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL will be theatrically released in NYC and LA on September 21st. A nationwide release is planned for early October.
