The Duke and Duchess of Windsor

Diana Vreeland always had her nightgowns tailored often with up to three fitting and her first job prior to entering the publishing world was running a lingerie shop in London.

One of her clients was Wallis Simpson who ordered three nightgowns from Mrs. Vreeland prior to her first weekend alone with Prince Edward who would go on to abdicate the throne for the woman he loved. Diana Vreeland's son Frecky once joked that, "Mom's store brought down the British Empire."
